What makes a good URL slug

A slug is the human-readable tail of a URL — the webflow-cms-structure in /blog/webflow-cms-structure. Good slugs are short, lowercase, hyphen-separated, and built from your target keyword with the filler words stripped. This generator lowercases, removes accents and punctuation, collapses spaces to hyphens, and trims the ends — exactly what a clean slug needs.

Slug rules worth knowing

• Hyphens, not underscores. Google treats hyphens as word separators; underscores join words.
• Lowercase only. Some servers treat /About and /about as different URLs.
• Keep it lean. Drop stop words (a, the, of, to) unless they change the meaning.
• Don’t stuff dates or IDs unless the content is genuinely time-bound.

Changing a slug? Redirect it first

In Webflow, the CMS auto-generates a slug from the item name, but you can override it per item. If you rename a published slug, add a 301 from the old path before you publish or you’ll lose the rankings and break inbound links.
