How Google measures your title and description
Google does not truncate by character count — it truncates by pixel width. Wide characters
like W and M eat more budget than narrow ones like i
and l. This preview measures your text in the exact font Google uses (Arial
at 20px for titles, 14px for descriptions), so you see the real truncation point.
Rules of thumb
- Title: aim for ~580px. Under 50 chars usually fits.
- Description: aim for ~990px. 140–155 chars usually fits.
- Lead with the keyword. If Google rewrites your title, they tend to keep the first 50 chars.
- Brand at the end. "Primary keyword — Brand name" tends to outperform the reverse.
